Please turn to page 217 in your hymnal...

I got this in the mail today. Tammy Faye sent it for my burfffday.

It's a travel hymnal. It doesn't look little but it is. Isn't it cute? There are 588 hymns in this little book. And responsive scripture readings in the back. We can have us some church on the next road trip.

Lawnmower Man and the Lil'Nannies don't really care to hear me sing on the road trips. They would prefer to listen to the radio, watch a DVD or LM is listening to his new friend the Garmin...
turn left in 0.5 miles, turn right in 0.2 miles, your exit will be in 0.6 miles. The Garmin has the most obnoxious voice ever. But that's okay, the Fruit Bowl Girls like me to lead'em in some hymns (well, some of them do) and Tammy Faye does too.

I have it turned to page 217...At Calvary. Why?

This was the first hymn I learned to play. I say the word "play" loosely. It involved a piano but I'm not sure the piano felt played. The piano probably felt a little violated. It's a rather choppy version of At Calvary. I'm sure if you listened closely you could figure it out. I play it from the heart so I believe it to be a rather soul stirring rendition. Tammy Faye can play better than me but don't tell her I said that. I can also kinda play...

A Shelter in the Time of Storm

Cleanse Me

These are not my favorite hymns. Three of my favorite hymns are...

Blessed Assurance

Great is thy Faithfulness

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing

So what's your favorite hymn?

At Calvary was the first song I learned to play too! And we have a travel hymnal!?!? I'm beside myself excited!

Now for my favorites:
Great is Thy Faithfulness
It is Well With My Soul
Victory in Jesus
He Keeps Me Singing (Is that the title? It starts "There's within my heart a melody...")
Jesus Paid It All

I don't know the titles...

"This is my story, this is my song... praising my Savior all the day long."

"At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light and the burden of my heart flowed away. It was there by faith I received my sight and now I am happy all the day."

I also love the Doxology. Sang it every Sunday... I will think of more when I am fully awake.

Favorite hymns are so hard because I think of one that I love then I think of another then I think of another then I think of another...you get the idea, right?

So for today my favorite hymn is "I Surrender All" and "God Leads His Us Along." Tomorrow there will be two totally different songs...guaranteed.

And a TRAVEL HYMNAL? I thought being the good indy baptist girl that I was brought up to be that I would have certainly heard of this before! :) I can't wait to get me one.

The hymn sing in the car will be much more pleasant than the Carpenters Extravaganza" that they got this past week while we were out of town!!

Blessings,
Dori

P.S. "At Calvary" was my first hymn learned on the piano, too! Did we all have the same piano teacher????

"Because He Lives" is my absolute favorite. Of course, I have to wait until Easter to hear it, but now I'll be singing it all day!

Victory in Jesus, and if I had our leather bound Baptist Hymnal at arms reach, I would show off and tell you the number. (oh yes, we do)

And my favorite hymn to awaken my husband who is getting to sleep in WAY too late while I care for our three little blessings is He Arose...especially the part that sings in a big voice

"AND UP FROM the GRAVE HE AROSE. With a mighty triumph o'er His foes!"

I hear you on "Come Thou Fount"...LOVE that one. Also love the lesser known "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God." I especially enjoy hymns when they are made into a medley with modern worship songs. Makes the words even more powerful!

Amazing Grace
Pass It On (my best friend played that at our piano recital)
How Great Thou Art
Great is Thy Faithfulness

It's just a shame that you didn't have it on your Ridgecrest road trip. There's always next year.
