When it all comes down to it....I'm a "before" picture

The Bible has a few things to say about pride and that's where I find myself this week.

Take a good look...

If you saw me yesterday or today, you know that I didn't do any fancy photoshop work with this picture. Those are my real zits.

I took this picture this morning. My face looks like a "before" picture for Stridex/Clearisal/Accutane/Proactive. I'm not very happy about it.

Long story short, I got ready in our other bathroom one day this week and I used a tube of face wash that was already in that shower...BIG MISTAKE! I didn't notice anything on Monday but by Tuesday afternoon I could literally feel the zits erupting all over my face. By Wednesday morning my face was raw and irritated. Then I put some concealer on top of the comet sized cratar on my forehead and that(sarcasm) made(sarcasm) it(sarcasm) so(sarcasm) much (sarcasm) better.

Stay with me here because I am so going to make this a devotional...

I have issues with pride. Yep, pride.

You see, here lately, I've felt pretty proud of my good skin. Over the last few years I've had severe oily skin and many breakouts. About six months ago I discovered a new face product and it has changed my skin dramatically. No more oil, minimal zits and smooth skin...I was the "after" picture. And people noticed. Just like I wanted them too.

When I was 18 years old, I worked at a camera store and the owner's wife would stop by every now and again and she would always comment on my fabulous porcelain skin. Did you just hear that...my skin was FAB-u-lous. (Insert Sharpay singing here.) At that time, I didn't think having porcelain skin was all that big a deal and often sat outside in the sun...FACE UP WITHOUT ANY SUNSCREEN! There is no possible way that I could do that now because I have a friend named Tracey that is always there to offer me an assortment of appropriate sunscreen protection to keep my skin porcelain and cancer free. And those of you that have seen me the day after an Easter egg hunt, know what happens when I take my sunscreen responsibilities into my own hands...can anyone say farmer tan with a sleeveless Easter dress.

Anyhoo, here I am with a face full of zits. And my issue with pride just doesn't erupt on my face, it erupts into all areas of my life. And from what I understand...God isn't too fond of it. The pride. He mentions it like 49 times in the Bible so I would assume that if God says something that many times...I should make a note of it. Note taken. So I said to God this morning...

God, if you want me to be humble and show my zitty face to the www and tell them about my stinken pride, then I'm going to need you to confirm it...

Excuse me while I go check my email...

Open the only email in my inbox and read:

“To the faithful you show yourself faithful; to those with integrity you show integrity. To the pure you show yourself pure, but to the wicked you show yourself hostile. You rescue the humble, but you humiliate the proud” (Psalm 18:25-27).

So He's going to rescue me...maybe He'll use you. Got any quick cures for acne? Got any pride?

And if you leave me a comment that says, "Oh, it's not that bad." You'll be gettin' a verse about lying in your inbox.

WELL LET'S JUST SAY I'LL NOT BE PUTTING THAT PICTURE UP AS MY SCEENSAVER AS I ALWAYS DO OF YOU WHEN I HAVE A NEW PICTURE BECAUSE YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL TO ME AND I LOVE YOU. YOU WANTED THE TRUTH YOU GOT IT BUT YOU NEVER KNOW WHERE THAT PICTURE WILL SHOW UP PRIDE GOETH BEFORE THE ZIT!

I'm not going to say it's not that bad BUT I am going to say you could be plagued with a disgusting, itchy, painful, oozing rash that keeps you awake all night? Does that make you feel better? :) Hey, now that I think about it, am I being taught a lesson in this too? PROBABLY! Love ya and glad we can get disciplined together! :) (but I am not putting a picture of mine on the www)

From one fellow picker to another. Leave it alone! I have had to really try my hardest to "leave well enough alone" but I think we both get obsessed and just have to "get it"

Anyway... I have found that my Bare Essentials is breaking my face out a lot less.

I also have discovered that putting Neosporin on a wound that I create (at night before bed) helps too.

I also find that getting a pedicure makes me feel better about the whole situation too...=) Plus have the reason that the problem spot it there is stress right? That is what they say...

Wow, I am so not that brave. Do I have an issue with pride? Probably, but I'm in denial :) I'm still working on the faith thing... What product did you use that worked wonders? Is it not working now? I ask, bc I could so use a new product--even the dermatologist (sp?) couldn't help me!

I do believe you're well on your way to warding off the pride...I don't think I could be brave enough to post a naked-faced before pic. I got some new eye cream (all you Bible study girls got me paranoid about my lack of cosmetic knowledge!) and would love to do a before and after test. But I'm not sure the www will ever see that. Good for you, though. You're humble.

it's coolshellyt. pride queen. your post was a blessing to me today and I thank you. The sermon tomorrow is about pride and I am already nervous.
As for the zit thing, I would love the name of the stuff that worked.
I like mineral makeup, also.

Love ya through it all!

Wow! You must know when I will choose you to check in on. Love the reference, but I do worship the sun too much, sunscreen or not. You are beautiful, especially because you put your big zit on the www. Now this is a blog that glorifies God. Lesson seems to be learned and applied, and now Big Nanny is preaching!

I think you should check with T for a free product, if you do a little infomercial right here on your blog. Your fans seem to want to know. Maybe I should get a small treat for the idea too. ;)

Love you more for the humbling face shot!

Love,
Tracey

Hey Big Nanny, Why don't ya just come over and punch me in the stomach. That would be much easier! Yes, pride is a h-a-r-d one. That is why I love, love, love the Womens' Bible Studies at church. Those women drop all pretenses and truly break down the walls to share their hearts - faults included.

My flaws....let me count the ways! Then, I would indeed need a blog. I recently ran across a book at Lifeway that is on my wish list; it's called (something to the effect) The Older I Get, The Less I Know.

Lovin' that you are keepin' it real. We all have those bad-skin days. I consider concealer to be one of the many blessings in my life.

I would not have been seen without full makeup on for most of my grown life. I now go to the gym every morning with my bare ugly face. I am hideous. One of the glorious things about getting older is getting over some of that stuff and being more comfortable with who you are (zits and all). ;-)

In church today, your mother asked if I had seen this post--and I told her that if one Googled ANGELA and ZIT this picture appeared (she believed me :)).

She's horrified that this picture is on the net. Your mother is FUNNY. :)
