Edition 1: Free Gift With Purchase

Today I would like to introduce a new segment on the Big Nanny Blog called Free Gift With Purchase. You know when you go to the mall and the Clinique counter is offering you the most fabulous, hot pink, cosmetic bag with a sampling of miniature mascara, iddy-biddy eye make-up remover, teeny-tiny mirror, mini magic wrinkle eraser, and a horrendous full size peach lipstick color that never sees the light of day.

Don’t tell me I’m the only one that falls for the “free” gift with purchase trap? Tell me I'm not the only one with a small make-up bag to go with every season?

So, today, I will share my cosmetic wisdom. Okay, maybe wisdom is not the right word. I will share with you my favorite products and maybe, just maybe, you’ll win a really nice prize at the end. I have always loved make-up. I remember when I was ten years old and got this for Christmas. This was on my favorite things list in 1981. Just seeing this box makes me want to bust out into the commercial theme song...fresh 'n fancy, fresh 'n fancy. This was not just a box of eye shadows, this was a make your own make-up and then put it in cute little bottles.

And yes, I knew I was getting it before Christmas because my CraftiMama hid it behind her headboard and I spotted it. Just for the record, CraftiMama was never really good at hiding the presents. Did anyone else get this?

Anyhoo, here it is...

My Favorite Mascara

Almay One Coat Nourishing Mascara

Now this is a great mascara and it only cost a mere $5.99 at your local Walgreen's. It doesn't run, it doesn't itch, it's not gloppy ( I know the use of the big cosmeseutical terms is quite impressive) and comes in two shades of black and one shade of brown. Do people really use brown mascara? Just wondering? Also, available in waterproof.

And with that recommendation you might think that I'm going to give away a tube of my favorite, trusty mascara, right? Wrong. If I had an extra tube of that mascara, I would keep it for myself. So, I'm going to give away a tube of mascara that I don't like. You see, every now and again, I'm lured by bright, shiny, pink packages. You see, one day, I was wandering through Walmarts and noticed a package of this mascara...

You can see why I was mesmerized by the awesome pink packaging. But it wasn't just the pink packaging...it was a twofer. Two pink tubes for the price of one! How could I refuse? It just had to be great. Well, it was okay. It's not that it was horrible, it just wasn't Almay. So, anyhoo, I still have the extra tube of Maybelline Define-A-Lash Volume Mascara. Never been opened! Oh, I know, this is almost as good as the Oreck vacuum that BooMama gave away on her blog.

So, I want to know, what kind of mascara do you use? For every comment your name will be entered into the great mascara bloggy give-a-way of 2008. I will randomly put all the names in a hat, and I will randomly draw one out.

Good Luck!

P.S. To my sister, Tammy Faye, you can only enter one time.

I will have to ask your auntie she sure could tell you. Mother never could hide our gifts either we would wear it put it back in box before she got home from work we knew what time because we had it on our wrist. So I guess you come by it honest.

My favorite part of this whole post was where you added the "s" onto the end of Walmart making it Walmarts......I'm assuming that wansn't a typo, just a little country coming out of your northern self.

Anywho, I wear brownish-black mascara, thank you. I only whip out mascara on special occasions.......such as big dressy events or hot dates with my husband. Occasionally I'll apply some for church if I'm feeling crazy. Therefore I'm going to skip being in the drawing. I'm waiting for the big BIg prize.

And by the way, I DO comment on blogs if I feel I have something important to say :)

Yeah, I wear brownish black too. I guess because my momma told me to a long time ago. I really do not know what I wear right now. It is a big orange tube and Queen Latifa said that it was amazing, so I tried it. I find, mascara is always just... mascara.

This one does not leave big black circles under my eyes though.

Ok, I do have something to say. Since I was a Clinique Counter Manager for four years, you are one of those people that we dreaded coming to the counter. You can't just be thankful for the nice "FREE" gift your being given, you have to complain about it! I'll tell you what I told MANY of my customers, give it to your mother in law! I still love you Big Nanny but I had to say my peace for all those white coated Clinique girls who are just opening a box sent to the store and doing what they were told. They didn't pick that horrible peach color. Ok, off my soap box! :) I wear black mascara. I also wear Clinique black mascara. No particular one. I like them all. And right now, whatever is in my bag, that's what I go with. So, I would love to win your prize! It would make me smile! :)

I wear Loreal Voluminous Naturale. It is in a gold tube and it is pretty much awesome(better than almay - I've tried it). I always love black mascara and black eyeliner even when they tell me to wear brown, but last time I accendially bought brown/black and its not bad. The trick to good mascara is to change tubes often. Nothing is better than a new tube, that's why I want one.

I could not feel more honored to be commenting after checkers!

O.K. Big Nanny, I can't win your mascara giveaway because I too LOVE the Almay. I happen to be a waterproof/black girl because I have leaky eyes.

I DID have the create your own make--up kit and thought it was fantastical. I don't remember doing a whole lot with it because my little sisters would try to eat it or rub it all over everything.

I was not allowed to even touch makeup until I was 16 and even then it was only mascara and blush. I like the Mary Kay brand the best. I prefer it in black - never tried brown. I have lived a very sheltered life.

Man, I've never seen such long comments! I guess people just have lots to say when it comes to their products! I have to say that I thought the SAME thing Sonja said about the Walmarts line. Are you one that says Krogers, too? Anyhoo, I'm also glad to see that I'm not the only brown/black girl. I was feeling a little self conscious. My mom told me when I started wearing make-up that straight up black was too much for me, so I've stuck to that. I use a cheapy one you can get at "Walmarts" - Cover Girl professional. Nothing special about it. I'll have to try the Almay!

What a flashback! I have not thought about that make up kit in so long. I could actually smell the little blush pots I used to make. Too funny!! I wear Este Lauder mascara in black and it is almost always a freebie because I buy during the free gift time! I love their gifts...maybe you should change brands.

My mom always told me "bad" girls wore black mascara.

But then I turned 32 and decided to live a little. Now I wear black mascara. I know...I'm baaaaaddd.

Please put me in your drawing. I would love to win. So that I can wrap the tube up for Christmas and give it to Sonja since she refuses to wear mascara to church. That is just not natural.

I haven't been wearing much mascara lately (wonder why), but I generally don't leave home without it. Of course, I can't wear it without curling my eyelashes. I don't think it looks quite right on me without some curl. When I first started wearing make-up, I started with brownish black. My reasoning was that I had light brown hair so the black might be too overpowering for me. I also wore the cheap Cover Girl whatever from Walmart like Erin. Now that my hair is darker, I've grown up and graduated to black and have been experimenting to find my perfect brand. I haven't found it yet, but I have faith. Maybe Almay will change my life.

I recognize the mascara that you are giving away, and I'm not sure I want to be included in the giveaway. My mother was suckered into trying said brand and it was a two-fer package too. That's why I have some of it now, except mine is lime green. I'm not so impressed with it. I like the new edition for the blog though. Very exciting!

As soon as I saw the PINK tube I knew exactly what lured you into purchasing another brand. If you don't like it, I don't care to try it. I've always believed what you have said to be true.

Right now I'm using the Mabelline Lash Discovery, but you have witnessed me spending whatever it took to get the free gift!

I already use Almay! It is fabulous, but hopefully I will win cause I love it!

Wow, alot of people are getting into this mascara thing, ha ha.

Anyway, I'm sorry to all of you that are wearing other brands because, are you ready for this, I'm currently using Arbonne mascara in black because the Arbonne lady told me your mascara has bat poop in it! Ewww gross!

Aw Man...I am totally behind on this post, so I guess most people will not see it...which is probably good.
I guess just go ahead and call me a very very BAD white trash girl, because I wear, get this...not just black, but blackest black!! :) Loreal Voluminous is the best. Ashley, your mascara is Great Lash and it really is great! I use it too and sometimes combine the two. I will say I get black under by eye, but that is mainly because of my super watery eyes and the fact that my mascara goes on driving down the road so I sometimes miss my lashes! :)
