If You Give a Hamster a Hotdog

The Lil'Nanny wrote this at school today. It's similar to the If You Give a Mouse a Cookie book series. These were always my favorite books to read to my kids. You can look at them here. What is most intriguing about this writing is the fact that the hamster likes hotdogs???

If you give a hamster a hotdog, it'll want some ketchup to go with it.

While opening the ketchup, he will make a huge mess.

He will feel sticky and want to take a shower.

He will be cold and want a towel.

Now that he is all clean, he will want to watch a horror movie.

When he is watching the horror movie, he sees blood and it reminds him of the ketchup.

And chances are...if you give a hamster some ketchup, it'll want a hotdog to go with it.

Words for Wednesday

This Statue of Liberty just voted for the first time ever. She had to do it by mail, so she didn't get the true experience of walking into the fancy computer station to vote. Remember the curtain? I miss the curtain. And no, she hasn't been brainwashed by all of those college students that wear those "rock the vote" shirts. She voted for life!

Meet the Press

Yes, I've been off the blog. I spent one day of my fall break shopping with the Lil'Nanny so she could spend her birthday money, followed by some awesome relaxation, which included, one full day in my pajamas...it was glorious!

Anyhoo, I really didn't want to bring you anymore political coverage but it just so happens, that people have heard about my blog and are seeking my opinions for up to the minute, fair and balanced, political spin. Yes, I'm not kidding you!
It all started yesterday, when I heard that the lines were short at the TS Community Center. I met my friend, AC, so that we could exercise our right to vote or what I now will always refer to as...

BIG NANNY MEETS THE PRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(keep reading)

First, I will do a little review with you about what you should and should not do when you go to vote...

AC & her niece, M.E.

You should always bring a youngin' with you, teach'em young about proper political party affiliation. It seemed like it was only yesterday when I was standing in line next to my Dad (Wingtips), while he voted for President Reagan.

Just a tip...you should not wear political paraphernalia inside the voting place. That's why I'm wearing a black fleece jacket when it was 70+ degrees outside. Yes, Heather, I broke a rule. I know you're so disappointed in me.

Here I am, casting my vote. And yes, you should check it over, twice or twenty times, just to make sure it's right. Then I touched the big, green button that said: CONFIRM!

So, after we confirmed our votes, we walked out of the community center to find a Tennessean reporter. We were met with a few questions about the election, our pictures were taken for the newspaper and we were on our way.

Now, I'm going to send you to a link of where I might possibly be quoted ...

Or not be quoted.

You see, when you mention the words Bible and economy in one sentence, editors push delete on their fancy laptop computers. And, they really needed to tell you the real news...that Alan Jackson voted.

Here is one of the questions that we were asked...

Why do you think that Williamson County voters usually lean more towards the republican party? (it wasn't exactly worded like that but something like that)

I answered with a good newspaper answer like: WC voters are family oriented and hold traditional values, yadayadayada. But the answer that was rolling around in my head was...

WC has a lot of rich people and they want to keep their money!

I didn't say that, but I was thinking it. And if I had, I probably wouldn't have been deleted off of that fancy laptop.

We had a grand ole time

The Medium Nanny came home last weekend, and she had a little assignment to do while she was here. She needed to attend a concert and then write an English paper about it, so she found a free jazz concert that was being offered at the Frist Center for Visual Arts. She also needed someone to go with, so I accepted the "I don't really have anyone to go with, so I'll guess I'll take you" invite. I'm not a big fan of the jazz music, but that's okay, because it turns out good for me.

Now, I don't know about you, but when I think of concert, a concert hall appears in my mind with seats that pop up when you stand up. That's what I was thinking. I may not like the music, but I could relax in my nice, comfortable seat.

The picture above is the hallway between the art gallery and the gift shop. Yes, this is where the concert was held. Little round tables with chairs. Oh, you might think this is cute and quaint. Maybe it would be if there had been more than three people in the listening audience. It was not cute or quaint...it was awkward. Insert exit strategy here. Okay, there wasn't really an exit strategy, we just got up and left.

Now, I have to be honest and tell you that I really don't have an appreciation for fine art. The Medium Nanny and I walked through the art gallery where they were showcasing the sculptures of Rodin. Lots of sculptures of necked bodies. However, on the way out of the Frist, I did see this piece of art and I liked it. I liked it because I actually own one of those lipsticks. I guess I do have an appreciation for art after all.

We also stopped by this piece of art and had our picture made. It wasn't until after we had the picture made that we noticed the sign that read: please do not stand on platform or touch sculpture. I think they should have made the sign a little bigger.

This cool bus was parked in the Frist Center parking lot and I felt the need for a picture. I'm quite sure that people will look at it and think that I went to the debate. We did stand around it for a while hoping that someone would want to interview us about the election, but that's when I remembered that the liberal media prefers not to air the opinions of gun toting, baby loving, Bible carrying republicans. So, we moved on.

We looked for another concert by grabbing a Nashville Scene newspaper. We found another venue across town...a little something they call the Grand Ole Opry. Now, I have to say one thing about Nashvillians that might get me in a bit of trouble...no one in Nashville cares about the Opry. Seriously, in all my years of living round these here parts, I never hear anyone talk about going to the Opry. Now, don't get me wrong, I do know people that like country music, I just don't know anyone that goes to the Opry. (Although, one of my BFF's (initials are TJ)would be quick to point out, right here at this spot, that she used to clog on Hee Haw.) Anyhoo, I'm just surprised that no one goes to the Opry. It was an all star line up...

Sara Evans-love her. Those back up singers are her sisters. I love a girl that brings her sisters along for the fun. She sang a song called Low from the new Billy Graham movie that was just released. You can hear the song here. I didn't even know there was a Billy Graham movie coming out.

Josh Turner-he sang several songs. He sang a song called the Long Black Train. You can watch his opry performance here.

We had a great night and if you are wondering if the Medium Nanny likes country music that would be a YES. I used to drive her every morning to preschool in Franklin, I would always listen to WSIX every morning and many days were spent listening to No One Else On Earth by Wynonna. She gave up country music for a good while and then one year I sent her to youth camp and she came back a fan of CMT: Country Music Television, I still haven't figured that one out yet. She's been listening ever since. I don't really listen to country music at all anymore, but I always seem to know most of the popular country songs, I'm not sure why. Here is Wynonna singing at the Opry...

I hope she gets an A on her English paper because this "free" jazz concert that she found online ended up costing me $72. Yes, that's how much it cost for two tickets in the cheap seats at the Grand Ole Opry, but that's okay, because, there was no one else on earth I would have rather been with at the Grand Ole Opry.

Have you been to the Grand Ole Opry?

This is what 11 looks like

Today the Lil'Nanny is 11 years old. I will share 11 facts about her...

1.She doesn’t think that she is blonde. I like to tell her that she is dishwater brownish-blonde. She feels the need to be blonde and will have blonde highlights two years from today. That will be October 6, 2010, when she turns 13.

2. She is obsessed with her hair. I did not make her this way. She was born this way.

3. She only wanted clothes from Justice for her birthday. She went to their website and printed pictures of the clothes that she liked and cut them into tiny squares. She then made a little paper pouch that said: Birthday Wish List. It was very little girl like and it was very helpful all at the same time. I really wanted to buy her a toy too because that would make her still seem like a child and not the "tween" that she is. She is constantly saying that she wants/needs/wishes for a cell phone. Well, that ain’t happenin’ around here. And yes, she has told me many times that everyone in the fifth-grade-free-world has a phone except her. So I compromised…I got her a house phone from Justice, it's pink and has cute little words that say friends, fun and BFF. Totally cute. Totally fun. So she can plug it in the wall in her bedroom and talk away. I hope there is a phone jack in her bedroom??? Guess I should have checked on that.

4. She is a little sassy and likes to organize things. Last week her Sunday school teacher said that she likes to run the show. Hmmmm…I don’t know where she gets it from???

5. She gets her feelings hurt very easily.

6. She was born at 5:27 p.m. and weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces. I had to have her surgically removed from my body because the Friday night before she was born, she needed to do a somersault. The doctor offered to insert hands and turn her back...I politely declined. He also offered me an attempt at a breach delivery...I politely declined. She has been doing flips ever since. Literally, she is always cartwheeling, somersaulting, hand springing, you name it...she's a flipper.

7. Her favorite dinner is egg casserole.

8. Her favorite sweet snack is Little Debbie Nutty Bars.

9. She has beautiful blue eyes. I'm still shocked that she has blue eyes.

10. She wanted a carrot cake for her birthday. Lawnmower Man is making it right now. I'm still mourning the loss that I will not be eating cake today. I don't believe in adding vegetables to a cake. It goes against everything I believe in.

11. Lawnmower Man is also making fried oreo cookies for her school birthday treat per her request. This will help me get over not having any cake.

Happy Birthday, Lil'Nanny! I love you!

Favorite Foto Friday

Moving...redneck style.

Who needs a truck when you can just load up cribs and push them across the church parking lot. Classy, I know. Speaking of cribs...I have several cribs just like the ones above for sale. No, I don't get to pocket the money and go hire myself a cleaning lady. Although, a cleaning lady would be a great idea because I haven't been home much over the last three weeks and the dust is quite thick. Anyhoo, the money would go into the preschool ministry new toy fund. So, if you need a crib or a changing table, I'm your girl. Cribs are $50 and changing tables are $20. Great for grandmother/grandma/mamaw/nana/miemi's house.
You get the idea.

By the way, what do you call your grandmother???? Leave me a comment.

Email here for more details about the cribs.

Happy Friday!

Update on my last post: Because I believe in journalistic integrity, I would like for you to know that I received an email from my pastor stating that he could now die and go to heaven because he had been featured on the Big Nanny blog. He also wanted me to know that he moved three shelves not one. I know that you all want to link to my blog so that all of the blog world will know that HE MOVED THREE SHELVES. Yes, three shelves. I just want to be fair and balanced here.
